There is a high percentage of German and French speakers due to the relatively high populations of the native countries. France has around 65 million people, and Germany has around 80 million, composing around 75% of the western European population. French, Italian, and Spanish are all Romance languages, having the highest predominance in their respective countries. Other countries around Germany either speak German or have Germanic languages (English being one). Countries farther east speak more Slavic languages as proximity to Russia decreases.
